Our Adorable Valais Blacknose Sheep

F4 (87.5%) Purebred Lambs Coming in 2026

It’s hard not to fall in love with a Valais Blacknose Sheep. With their curly wool, teddy bear faces, and friendly personalities, they’ve earned the nickname “Cutest Sheep in the World”—and I couldn’t agree more!

We’re so excited to welcome these gentle Swiss sheep to Black Horse Farm here in Woodinville, WA. Our flock includes both 100% purebred and F3 (75%) Valais Blacknose sheep, and we’re thrilled to be offering 100% purebred and F4 (87.5%) lambs starting in 2026.

Why Valais Blacknose?

Cuddly Looks, Big Hearts, and a Rich History

The Valais Blacknose hails from the mountainous Valais region of Switzerland, where they’ve been raised for centuries. Originally bred for their coarse wool and their ability to thrive in rugged alpine climates, they’ve recently taken the world by storm thanks to their unique markings and charming personalities.

Here’s what makes them so special:

  • Iconic Black Markings: Their dark faces, ears, knees, and hooves give them a cartoon-like appearance.

  • Curly Wool Coats: Their thick, fluffy fleece is coarse and perfect for rugs, insulation, and other hardy textiles.

  • Friendly and Affectionate: These sheep are incredibly social and will actively seek out human attention.

  • Cold-Weather Resilience: They’re well adapted to the chilly, damp climate of the Pacific Northwest.

If you’ve ever seen a picture of a sheep that looks like a stuffed animal, chances are it was a Valais.

Challenges to Consider

As adorable as they are, Valais Blacknose sheep are still relatively rare in the U.S. and come with a few important considerations:

  • Wool Maintenance: Their luxurious fleece requires regular shearing and grooming.

  • Limited Availability: Quality breeding stock is expensive and still hard to source.

  • Breeding Complexity: Artificial insemination must be done surgically, which adds cost and planning unless you keep a ram on site.

Meet Our Flock

We’ve carefully built a small but growing flock that includes both 100% purebred and F4 Valais Blacknose sheep. Each one has their own personality—and every one of them is a joy to care for.

  • Casper – Our 100% purebred ram. He joined us in 2025 and has quickly become a farm favorite with his calm confidence.

  • Cotton – A 100% purebred ewe lamb with a sweet, social nature. She follows us around the farm like a loyal dog and always tries to “help” with chores.

  • Cricket – An F3 ewe with dark horns and a playful spirit.

  • Clover – An F3 ewe with light horns and a curious, observant personality.

We expect to have our first 100% purebred and F4 (87.5%) lambs in spring 2026, which will be available to select homes.
